Widewath is a traditional upland hill farm. We farm a hefted flock of native hardy Swaledales on the surrounding heather clad fells of Askham & Helton and Bampton commons. The ewes are crossed with a Leicester tup to produce mules with the females being sold to farmers on lower ground. Some are kept at Widewath and crossed with a texel tup to produce tasty fat lamb!! (occasionally available to buy!). We also keep a small herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle. Again, another hardy, native breed which thrives up here. There's also Smudge the pony, Mini the busy terrier, farm collies, ducks and hens - eggs –loverly!

We are ideally located for cyclists, walkers and horse riders to explore!! Venture up onto the wide open fells or down into the network of quiet lanes, bridleways and footpaths! Reach Beyond Adventure offer activities for families, individuals and groups to include rock climbing, ghyll scrambling, abseiling, canoeing, bushcraft & archery near Ullswater, Lake District. There's so much to do in the locality and neighbouring villages. Nurture Lakeland, an organisation promoting sustainable tourism, has produced a series of trails for our area focusing on art and culture, outdoor activity, cycling and food.
